We enjoyed a slow start to the morning; a cooked breakfast, then coffee in the armchair by the fire with a paper… a fabulous treat in our busy lives.

    History

Burford was established in the Saxon times, with the Priory as the focal point for the village. Burford as we know it really began after the Norman Conquest of 1066. The town is also famed for “The Battle of Burford”, which took place between the West Saxons and the Mercians in the year 752. The emblem for this battle is a Golden Dragon, and the people of Burford celebrated the anniversary up until the 17th Century.

Burford used to be a centre for the wool trade, especially between the 14th and 17th Centuries.
